Scientific name: Plectranthus barbatus (Andrews)

 Popular names: boldo-brasileiro, boldo-nacional, false-boldo, boldo-africano, Part used: leaves

 Main constituents: Diterpenoids, barbatol, barbatusin, cariocal, volatile oil (guaiene, fenchone and others), ferruginol.

 Indications for use: Boldo is indicated only for internal use, as a stimulant of the liver, digestion and appetite, it works to improve heartburn.

 Dosage and method of preparation

 Intern use:

 Infusion - 1 to 3 teaspoons (1 to 3 g) of dried leaves to 1 cup of tea (150 mL) of water.

 Over 12 years of age, take 150 mL of the infusion, immediately after preparation, 2 to 3 times a day.

 Maceration - knead or chop 1 to 2 fresh leaves into 1 cup of tea (150 mL) of cold water and let it rest for a few minutes, taking 2 to 3 times a day.

 Cautions: It should not be used by pregnant women, nursing women, children and people with obstruction of the biliary tract or gallstones (stone in the gallbladder). Do not use in case of treatment with metronidazole or disulfiram, central nervous system (CNS) depressant and antihypertensive drugs. Doses above those recommended and used for a longer period than recommended may cause gastric irritation.
